The City of Columbia has launched a new digital platform that shifts all special event permit applications to an online system designed to streamline the process.

The platform, called Eproval, is now required for all Special Event Permit Applications, according to a community announcement. City officials say the system is intended to improve efficiency and make the application process more accessible.

Eproval allows applicants to submit materials, track progress and communicate with reviewers through a single online portal. The system is available at all hours and is designed to provide a more consistent and transparent experience, according to the announcement.

“Eproval is a game-changer for the City and the Columbia community,” said Amy Schneider, director of the Convention and Visitors Bureau. “Eproval not only streamlines the permitting process but also ensures that applicants have access to submit their applications and monitor their progress at all times, promoting both efficiency and equity.”

New system focuses on access and transparency

The platform is structured to standardize how permit requests are processed, which city officials say supports fair and consistent handling of applications. Users can monitor their application status in real time and receive updates throughout the review process.

Officials also emphasized that the system aims to improve communication between applicants and reviewers by centralizing messages and resources within the platform, according to the announcement.

Features designed to improve user experience

City officials highlighted several key features of the Eproval system, including continuous access for users, a simplified interface and tools that require minimal training.

Applicants can submit requests, review progress and communicate with staff at any time. The system also provides clear workflows intended to ensure equitable treatment for all users, regardless of their familiarity with permitting processes, according to the announcement.

More information about Eproval and access to the system is available at como.gov.
